Dante Maddox Jr. continues to lead Illinois basketball transfer portal wish list

It is tough to navigate, but Brad Underwood and the Illinois basketball coaching staff have done a great job with the transfer portal.

The fun of the transfer portal isn't slowing down, as the Illinois basketball team is going through a roster change.

So far in less than a month, the Illini have lost Dain Dainja and Sencire Harris to the transfer portal. We have Tre White, Jake Davis, and Kylan Boswell coming in. That puts us in the positive as far as numbers are concerned.

Illinois still has a few scholarships to play with, and there are plenty of talented transfer portal players available.

Here is the Illinois basketball transfer portal target wish list

Dante Maddox Jr. – Toledo Rockets

Illinois was able to land a starting point guard in the transfer portal over the weekend, and now it is time to find a good No. 2 guard who can knock down shots.

I think the best option right now for the Illini is Dante Maddox Jr. He is a 6-foot-2, 195-pound guard out of Chicago Heights, Illinois.

Maddox started his career at Cal State Fullerton, but his game struggled to get off the ground. After two seasons, he transferred out and landed with Toledo.

His game blossomed in the two seasons Maddox was with the Rockets. He averaged 11.3 points, 3.8 rebounds, 1.9 assists, and 1.1 steals per game in year one. Maddox followed that solid campaign up by averaging 15.6 points, 4.3 rebounds, 2.8 assists, and 1.4 steals per game this past season.

On March 25, Maddox officially entered the transfer portal. He had plenty of programs vying for his services, but he cut his list down to just Xavier, Creighton, Michigan, Louisville, and Illinois. Over the past few days, he made a trip to both Illinois and Louisville.

A decision for Maddox is coming on April 21. This is a big recruitment because Illinois needs more shooting. Maddox would be inserted into the starting lineup, which would cause a major shift in the roster. This kid is too good to pass up, though.
