A big decision is coming down the pipeline for a top Illinois football recruiting target.

Official visit season is in full swing, and the Illini have had numerous players into the building to try to show them Champaign is the right spot for their future.

One of the recruits who took a trip to Illinois was Terry Shelton. He is a 6-foot-4, 200-pound wide receiver from Ranchview High School in Texas. Shelton is rated as a three-star recruit who is the No. 650 player in the class of 2025. He is also the No. 100 wide receiver in the country and the No. 113 player coming out of Texas.

Shelton took four official visits. He started with Kansas back on April 12. He then visited Illinois on May 31, Boston College on June 11, and Arizona on June 14.

It now looks like Shelton’s recruitment is coming to an end. On Monday, he took to social media to announce that his top four was indeed Illinois, Kansas, Boston College, and Arizona. He also set a date for June 18, today, for his commitment.

Earlier today, Shelton released his commitment time. He will be making a decision at 4:00 p.m. CT.

Illinois football is stocking up on playmaking wide receivers, and Terry Shelton would fit in perfectly

The class of 2025 is far from buttoned up, but you can tell there has been a focus for the Illinois football coaching staff.

Illinois has been securing offensive talent. We have our quarterback of the future in Carson Boyd. The offensive line has been bolstered by multiple new additions. And then you have the wide receiver position.

Brayden Trimble and Davion Chandler have a chance to be special. They are two of our top commits thus far, and I fully expect them to see early playing time.

A commitment from Shelton would go a long way too. His commitment would give Illinois three wide receiver pledges, and Shelton’s size stands out among the others. Landing a wide receiver who is 6-foot-4 would be incredible.

Hopefully, Illinois can add a huge piece to the puzzle on Tuesday afternoon. Shelton would be a massive target in the Illini offense.
