The Illinois football program is back in action on Saturday in hopes of righting the wrongs from the dismal showing against Purdue.
It was not a good weekend for the Illini. Purdue hadn’t won a Big Ten game in years, and Illinois needed to prove the doubters wrong. Instead, we laid an egg. A disappointing result is not what this program needed right now.
Thankfully, Illinois has a chance to get right on Saturday. Michigan State welcomes in Illinois with the same 2-3 record and the same disappointment for the season. There is a chance that the winner of this game gets to a bowl game and the loser goes home.

Illinois football vs. Michigan State series history
Illinois and Michigan State have a true rivalry. It has been hotly contested over the years, with the Spartans having a historical 27-20-2 lead over Illinois.
The first game of the series took place back in October 1955. Illinois fell to Michigan State by a score of 21-7 in East Lansing. I think we all remember that game.
As of late, the Illini have been able to fend off the Spartans. We have won three out of the last four contests, with the most recent matchup going in Illinois’ favor in 2024 by a score of 38-16.
