The Illinois Fighting Illini always have news coming across the timeline, and it is time to get caught up on some of the big news from the last few days.

Illinois had an up-and-down weekend. The football program struggled, but there is a lot of positivity coming from the volleyball team. The future is also bright for the basketball program.

Don’t give up on Illinois football, though. There is still plenty of interest in the program, and that proved true over the weekend.

Pursuit of Brady Pettigrew, Dylan Betts, & Benjamin Berrouet gets juicier

Brad Underwood is trying to pull in some epic recruiting classes for 2027 and 2028. The class of 2027 could be special, but the 2028 class could be the greatest one in program history.

Illinois has numerous big-time targets right now, and most of them have visited the program. Right now, the focus for 2028 is Brady Pettigrew, Dylan Betts, and Benjamin Berrouet.

On Monday, Rivals updated their class of 2028 rankings. Their Rivals 150 has a refreshed top 10, and all three Illinois targets made the top 10.

Berrouet checks in at No. 7, Betts is No. 9, and Pettigrew is No. 10. All three would be massive for the Illini. If Underwood can reel in at least two of the top 10 recruits, that would give the Orange and Blue the greatest recruiting class in program history.

Illinois volleyball storms into the Top 25

All of the talk when it comes to Illinois is about the football team and their disappointing season. Meanwhile, the Illinois volleyball team is one of the hottest teams in the country.

For the season, the Illini are 11-4 overall and 3-1 in the Big Ten. This great start has drawn national attention, and on Monday, Illinois officially cracked the Top 25.

Checking in at No. 24, Illinois is ranked for the first time this season. This ranking was earned, as the Illini have been on fire lately.

After a tough 1-2 start to the 2026 campaign, Illinois has rattled off a record of 10-2 in the last 12 matches. This includes three straight wins over No. 15 Minnesota, No. 23 USCA, and No. 22 Washington.

Bret Bielema gets much-need boost from commitment

It was a rough weekend for Bret Bielema and the Illinois football program. We needed a win on the field, but Purdue proved to be too much.

While the Illini were downtrodden after the game, there was some good that came out of Saturday. Illinois ended up landing a nice piece for the offensive line in 2027.

On Sunday, Harry Maileoi announced his commitment to Illinois. He visited Champaign for the Purdue game, and despite the disappointing loss, Maileoi saw the potential in the program and what he could do to help Illinois.

The Illini needed this commitment. We needed some good news to come our way, as things have been pretty bleak lately. Hopefully, this shows the work the coaching staff has put into recruiting and that players are not only staying but also joining the fight.
