Illinois basketball's new summer project, 'Falling Into Place,' has been a big success so far this offseason.
The Illini, who released episode one of their docu-series on July 2, are giving fans a unique inside look at the team's preparations for the 2026-27 season. They are giving fans an all-access pass to the madness, which started with introductions to transfers Divine Bourrage and Ona Riopedre.
In episode two, they dove a little deeper into what goes into the makeup of this team, as we learned more about Illinois' nutrition and strength regimen from Chloe Morrell and Coach Kilee Fletcher.
The Illini are inching even closer to the start of a pivotal season, and the staff is doing everything they can to get them ready for tip-off. Here are some interesting notes from episode two.
Illinois bought into the nutrition program set up by team nutritionist Chloe Morrell
When you have an engine, you need to give it the fuel it needs to keep running. That is exactly what Morrell is trying to accomplish with her players, as she is teaching them about the healthy ways they can fuel their bodies.
Whether it's an applesauce before a workout or a creative Flavor Friday smoothie on the way out the door, Morrell is doing everything she can to put her players on the right track. The best part about it, however, is the fact that the players are having fun with it.
For some people, the thought of praising a team for sticking to their nutrition could sound a tad boring, but this isn't just a story of discipline, but one of joy as well. This team is fully bought into the nutrition program, with players like Aaliyah Guyton even calling Morrell at night to talk about cooking.
This team is in a special place, and they are clicking on all cylinders this offseason. When you can get your players to be so focused on every aspect of their game like this, then anything is possible during the season.
Kilee Fletcher is making sure that each player gets the attention they need in the weight room
The weight room is a sacred place at the University of Illinois that is run by power couple Adam and Kilee Fletcher. The Fletchers, who are the strength and conditioning coaches for the men's and women's basketball programs, have built training regimens that are widely-respected across the country.
Fletcher puts a lot of work in the weight room to help get the women's program into top shape, individualizing everything to meet kids where they're at. She is really focusing on the needs of her players, building relationships with them, and analyzing what they need from a coaching standpoint, so that she can bring the best out of them.
The best part about it is Fletcher's access to specialized equipment like the Hawkin Dynamics Force Plate system, where she analyzes where each player's jump is on a weekly basis. She is really diving deep into the makeup of each player in order to help build the best athletes possible.
