Head coach Bret Bielema loves to recruit local talent, tipping his cap to the great Illinois football programs that have developed some of the top talent in the country.
It is a trend that has served Bielema well since he arrived in Champaign, leading to the Illini recording their best two-year run in program history with 19 wins.
Illinois has been on the up-and-up when it comes to their recruiting, with offers already extended to some of the top recruits in the state. As of writing this, there is one local talent who should be receiving a lot more recognition, and that is defensive lineman Khristaan Moore of Crete-Monee High School.

Moore, a versatile lineman for Crete-Monee, has been making great strides in his development under head coach John Konecki. In two seasons with the program, the 6-foot-1 Moore has recorded 54 tackles, 24 pressures, 13 tackles for a loss, nine sacks, and two forced fumbles.
After a standout sophomore season where he doubled his production in every major statistical category, Moore will look to continue his success this fall as a junior for Crete-Monee. It will be a major stepping stone for Moore in his quest for college offers, especially after being ranked as the No. 3 defensive lineman in the state by Prep RedZone.
Bret Bielema and the Illinois football staff should certainly have Khristaan Moore on their radar for 2028
There are a lot of things to be excited about when watching Khristaan Moore's highlight reel on Hudl. He is a complete-package player who is now in the process of fine-tuning various aspects of his game.
Moore is a very talented interior lineman who can split to the outside and has a great first step that he utilizes for speed and power. When he sees daylight, Moore can use his quickness off the ball to help shoot the gap and get into the backfield. But when he has a larger blocker across from him, he can use his power to get them on their heels in a hurry.
This young man has a lot of potential to be something special at the next level, with scouting websites like Next Level Sports saying;
"Khristaan projects as a powerful interior/edge hybrid with upside as he continues to grow physically. His strength base and early varsity production indicate long-term potential as a disruptive defensive lineman. As he develops explosiveness and technique refinement, he has the tools to become a high-impact defender at the next level."
If anything, it would be a surprise if Moore isn't at least on Illinois' radar by the end of his junior season. He has plenty of room to grow throughout these next two years and can certainly become a major name in the country by the time 2028 rolls around.
But even if Moore doesn't find himself in Champaign once his high school career ends, it would be shocking if he doesn't find a home somewhere else. Regardless of where he goes for college, Moore needs to be a name to keep an eye on.
