Luke Altmyer did something special during his time in Champaign, as he helped us believe in Illinois football again.

With the help of Bret Bielema and the rest of the program, the Starkville, Mississippi, product helped lead the Illini to two bowl games in his three seasons with the team. He also helped give this team back-to-back winning seasons for the first time since 2010 and 2011.

Altmyer's good demeanor and competitive drive have helped make him a fan favorite from his first snap to the final whistle against Northwestern. But what are some of the biggest metrics from his collegiate career that solidify his greatness?

Here are three impressive marks highlighting Luke Altmyer's legendary Illinois football career

1. Luke Altmyer has the third most wins in program history

The University of Illinois' football program has been a bit of a mess for the last decade. Since 2012, this program has only had three winning seasons. The best part, however, is that two of them came on Altmyer's watch.

It was a dark and dreary time before his arrival, with fans praying for a resurgence of some kind. But with Altmyer at the helm, things have sort of turned around in Champaign. This program has found new life, which has led to Altmyer winning the third most games as a quarterback in program history with 22 victories.

2. Luke Altmyer one of the most dynamic passers in Illinois history

There have been plenty of quality quarterbacks who have laced up a pair of cleats for Illinois. Whether it was Kurt Kittner, Juice Williams, or even Jack Trudeau, this program has had a long line of names who have made an impact in college football.

It has been a who's who of names that Altmyer has officially joined at the conclusion of this season. In just three years with Bret Bielema's bunch, he has racked up the fifth most passing yards (7,411) and is tied with Juice Williams for the second most passing touchdowns (56) in program history.

Altmyer has been one of the most dynamic passers in program history, with performances like this year's match-up against USC highlighting his resume. It was a legendary game, with Altmyer throwing for 328 yards and two touchdowns on a 76.9% completion.

3. Luke Altmyer has the best selling merch at the NIL Store

This isn't necessarily football-related, but it is a big moment nonetheless. Just the other week, the NIL Store reported that Altmyer had the highest-selling merchandise through their website. It was a monumental accomplishment for our guy, showing that he can build such a big name at a program with such a low (reported) NIL budget.

This man, through all of the work that he has put in at Illinois, has given us a career that we will not soon forget. He has created a lasting legacy to the point where fans are willing to buy a shirt to help support his journey.

Hats off to you, Luke. One more bowl game for you. Let's make it a good one!
