Illinois Basketball: 5 recruits Illini fans should keep tabs on in June
Illinois basketball is in a race with other big-time programs on who will get unofficial and official visits with recruits now that the dead period has ended.
The Illini are eyeing so many talented players for the 2022 class. Most of these players have been on the radar for quite some time, but there are also a few new names sprinkled in who could help the program win a ton of games down the road.
It will be interesting to see who Illinois can get in the mix for in the coming weeks. The month of June isn’t just important for the football team. It is also crucial for the basketball program as well.
Here are five recruits Illini fans should keep tabs on in June.
1. Jaden Schutt
A name that many Illinois fans are familiar with is Jaden Schutt. Illinois was the first offer to Schutt back in April 2020, and the Orange and Blue have been recruiting the talented shooter ever since.
Schutt is a 6-foot-5, 175-pound shooting guard from Yorkville Christian High School and resides in Yorkville, Illinois. He is rated as a three-star recruit and ranked as the No. 114 player in the class of 2022. He is also the No. 14 shooting guard in the nation and the No. 3 player coming out of the state of Illinois.
The recruitment of Schutt has been going on for a while, and he now has roughly 17 scholarship offers. But there are more than a few teams that stand out to him. As of right now, only one team has an official visit set up with Schutt and that is Michigan State for June 18.
Despite only one official visit set up so far, Schutt does have a full slate of unofficial visits coming, including one to Illinois. He will be in Champaign next Monday, June 7. This is when the Illini can convince him to come for an official visit since Schutt only has four official visits remaining.
Schutt is also taking an unofficial visit to Iowa on June 21, which is the Monday after his official visit to Michigan State. So, the schedule is pretty packed for the talented in-state shooter. Keep an eye out for how the unofficial visit to Illinois goes at the beginning of next week, though. This could set the groundwork for a better relationship and an official visit in the coming months.
