Illinois basketball is really starting to heat up their recruitment of the class of 2022.

Things haven’t taken off for the Orange and Blue past the class of 2021, but there is no reason not to look at the future when it comes to recruiting. Keeping state of Illinois recruits home is an important aspect of becoming a team that competes every season. Brad Underwood knows this. That is why he is pursuing Jaden Schutt.

Schutt is a 6-foot-5, 175-pound shooting guard from Yorkville High School and resides in Yorkville, Illinois. He is rated as a four-star recruit who is the No. 85 player in the class of 2022 and the No. 16 shooting guard in the nation. He is also the No. 2 player in the state of Illinois.

On Friday, Jake Weingarten of Stockrisers tweeted out that Schutt is talking with a myriad of programs including the likes of Ohio State, Iowa, Purdue, Michigan State, Wisconsin and Illinois, just to name a few teams from the Big Ten. But Weingarten didn’t stop there with some valuable information.

Schutt also mentioned to Weingarten that Illinois is doing a Zoom call with the talented shooter next week. The Illini coaching staff will be on the call as Underwood wants to make a  “hot pursuit” after the kid. This is some big news for the Illini fanbase.

It is hard not to get excited when you hear Illinois is pursuing a talented shooter like Schutt. If you watch what this kid can do on the court, you will instantly see why he would be a great option for the Orange and Blue.

Schutt has good size at 6-foot-5, and he is pretty athletic. He flies around the court and can get to his spots with ease. I love his ability to maneuver around the court too. Schutt’s shooting stands out the most, though. He can create space and get whatever shot he wants.

Honestly, looking at his game and athletic ability, Schutt reminds me so much of Grayson Allen. Both had a great shot from anywhere on the court. Both players could create space and get their own shot. And they both were extremely athletic. Yes, please sign me up for a few years of Schutt with the Illini.
