The Illinois basketball team no longer has two players committed for the class of 2022.
Illinois started the 2022 class off well, with two commitments in the past two months. But the good feels have ended with Illini commit AJ Storr announcing on Twitter that he is reopening his recruitment.
Storr is a 6-foot-5, 180-pound shooting guard from Bishop Gorman High School and resides in Las Vegas, Nevada. He is rated as a three-star recruit and ranked as the No. 149 player in the class of 2022. He is also the No. 20 shooting guard in the nation and the best player coming out of Nevada.
At this time, I am opening up my recruitment. The University of Illinois is still on my list, and my family and I look forward to building a relationship with the new staff. I feel this is the best decision for me to pursue all options for my college basketball and future career.

The recruitment of Storr hasn’t heated up too much just yet. Illinois was the biggest program after him, as the Orange and Blue came in with an offer to Storr back in December 2020. Just about four months later, the talented shooting guard decided to commit to the Illini.
Storr’s commitment lasted a month and six days, and now he is back on the market. His tweet does say that Illinois is still on his list, though.
What to make of the Illinois basketball program losing Storr
This move doesn’t give any comfort to Illinois fans worried about the program after the departure of their top two assistant coaches. That is what most fans are looking for right now. Stability is in question with some people.
I don’t see this as a stability issue. Storr is a Nevada recruit with a ton of time left in his recruitment. I was shocked he committed this early in the process, honestly. He shouldn’t have committed yet, as he will only garner more and more attention as his summer and senior year develops.
At the end of the day, Storr may end up coming back to Illinois if the grass isn’t greener on the other side. But it is probably a good more for Storr to evaluate what he is doing before entering the college ranks. Take your time and make the right decision. I don’t mind this at all from a fan perspective.
Illinois lost a member of the 2022 class on Thursday. We still have Reggie Bass committed, though. Everything will be okay despite losing our top-rated recruit.
