The Illinois basketball team landed a major priority recruit with Arizona Compass Prep’s AJ Storr joining the fold in 2022.

Storr, a 6-foot-5, 180-pound shooting guard, has been on Illinois’ radar since the fall of 2020. The three-star recruit is officially calling Champaign home, as he took to Twitter to make the news official on April 7. Including the Illini, Storr had interest from Virginia Tech, Austin Peay, Ole Miss, and Chicago State, to name a few.

"“First off, I want to thank God for giving me the abilities to play basketball,” Storr wrote. “Next, I would like to give a special thanks to my family who has sacrificed so much for me to be able to play the game [of basketball] that I love. Also, I would like to thank all [of] the high schools I played at and teammates that I’ve had.  Lastly, I would like to thank all [of] the coaches that have recruited me. With that being said, I am 110% committed to the University of Illinois.”"

Storr recently transferred from Bishop Gorman High School in Las Vegas, Nevada, to Arizona Compass Prep in Chandler, Arizona, for the 2020-21 varsity boys’ basketball season. With no fall season due to COVID-19, Storr made the move that he felt was best for his future.

In his first season as a member of the Dragons, Storr and his teammates put together an impressive resume, as the squad finished 28-2 overall with an undefeated conference championship title at 7-0.

The Dragons would eventually fall to Montverde Academy in the national championship semifinals, 51-49, on April 2.

What would AJ Storr bring to the Illinois basketball program?

With the departure of several Illinois players, including the loss of Bob Cousey Award winner and All-American, Ayo Dosunmu, Storr was a critical addition to a team that is looking to contend for another Big Ten championship and a national title in the years to come.

Below, get a glimpse of Storr’s overall floor awareness, his baseline jumper, and his ability to score double-digits to help lead his team to a win. In an October 25 tilt against the Las Vegas Orange, Storr scored 21 points.
