5. Cason Wallace

The final notable player the Illinois basketball program is chasing in the 2022 ESPN 60 is Cason Wallace. The Illini seem to be mainly targeting positions No. 2 through No. 4. Wallace fits in line with this mindset.

Wallace is a 6-foot-3, 180-pound shooting guard from Richardson High School and resides in Richardson, Texas. He is rated as a four-star recruit who is the No. 60 player in the class of 2022 and the No. 14 shooting guard in the nation. He is also the No. 8 player in the state of Texas.

Other recruiting sites aren’t high on Wallace. One site doesn’t even have him ranked and another site has him barely in the top 100. But ESPN thinks highly of the shooting guard and puts him in their top 60.

Wallace’s game, I believe, will translate well at the next level. I think the best attribute he brings to the game is his calmness. This kid doesn’t flail. He always keeps his cool and can control the game. That is an important aspect of the game. Wallace also has a great ability to finish at the rim. I have said this before, his game reminds me of Coby White.

The scholarships have started to come in for Wallace. He has roughly 11 offers right now. Illinois isn’t one of them, but they are eyeing this kid. They have been in contact with him over the last couple of days. Don’t be surprised to see the Illini come in with an offer as well.

I would love Wallace on the Illinois basketball team. I think he could come in and either play the No. 1 or No. 2 guard roles. Whatever team lands him, though, will be getting a good one.
