The Illinois basketball team is currently trying to snag a couple of transfers this offseason and is still trying to build for the class of 2021 as well.
So far, the Illini haven’t been able to land a recruit for the class of 2021. There are a ton of lines in the water, but no fish have bitten quite yet. Brad Underwood and his coaching staff have done a great job so far despite not having a commitment. We are in the running for some of the bigger players in the country. One of the talented players is Luke Goode.
Goode is a 6-foot-5, 175-pound shooting guard from Homestead High School in Fort Wayne, Indiana. He is rated as a four-star recruit who is the No. 99 player in the class of 2021 and the No. 22 shooting guard in the nation. He is also the No. 7 player in the state of Indiana.
I have written about Goode a few times over the past year. He took an unofficial visit to Illinois back in June 2019. This is when the Illini first offered the talented sharpshooter. Goode then took another unofficial visit to Champaign in January of 2020. That means there is mutual interest in both sides.
#Illini Bball recruiting news- Luke Goode is a 4-⭐️ recruit, 6’6” SG from Ft. Wayne, Indiana ’21. ”Goode told me: Illinois is one of the schools recruiting me the hardest, they will definitely be there in the end.” Goode plans to make an announcement next month. pic.twitter.com/ee8dRUHdAq

Kedric Prince of Rivals had a chance to talk with Goode recently. In his conversation with the northern Indiana native, Goode says that Illinois is one of the schools that is recruiting him the hardest. He also mentions we are going to be there at the end of his recruitment. A decision for Goode will come in May.
This is great reporting by Prince, and it is exciting if you are an Illinois fan. The fact we are in the running for such a talented shooter is awesome. To add the icing on the cake, if we could pull a player from Fort Wayne, that would be even more impressive. Usually, the big names for Fort Wayne head to Michigan State, Ohio State, Indiana or Purdue.
Goode would be an amazing fit for the Illini. The kid is built well and should be able to contribute big minutes from day one. I see him as a perfect fit at the No. 3 spot. If we can land Goode, Illinois would be a national title contender.
