Illinois Basketball: Illini target Luke Goode taking another unofficial visit
A big-time recruit is going to be taking an unofficial visit to see the Illinois basketball team take on Purdue on Sunday.
According to Jake Weingarten of Stockrisers, Luke Goode will be at the Illinois vs. Purdue game. This is an important visitor because the Illini have been after this kid for a while, and he could help the team tremendously in the future.
Goode is a 6-foot-6, 175-pound shooting guard from Homestead High School in Fort Wayne, Indiana. He is rated as a four-star recruit who is the No. 88 player in the class of 2021 and the No. 19 shooting guard in the nation. He is also the No. 7 player in the state of Indiana.
It looks like 247Sports has Goode with a top six, but that doesn’t seem to be the case. It seems like his recruitment is wide-open right now. Apparently, he has taken an official visit to Maryland on November 8, though. So, that leaves only four official visits remaining. Will Illinois be able to snag one and potentially land this kid?
Back in June, when Illinois first offered Goode on an unofficial visit, the Writing Illini had a chance to chat with him about the offer and his mindset. Illinois talked with Goode about how they love his shooting ability, and how he can guard positions 1-5 because of his size. That would be good for the Illini considering how much talent we are going to be losing over the next couple of years.
Illinois will have Ayo Dosunmu, Trent Frazier and Andres Feliz depart the program by the time Goode would come in. But we are reloading in 2020 with Andre Curbelo and Adam Miller. The Illinois roster would be pretty good with the addition of Goode.
I am looking at something like Curbelo (4-star), Miller (4-star), Goode (4-star), Giorgi Bezhanishvili (3-star) and Coleman Hawkins (3-star) as the potential starting five. But I am sure we would add more players to the mix throughout the process too. That isn’t a bad starting five in 2021, though.
Hopefully, the unofficial visit goes well for Goode. We need someone like him with his shooting ability and solid size. It would help if the Illini looked good against Purdue too. Winning goes a long way on the recruiting trail.
