Illinois Football: Top 5 wide receiver targets for the Illini class of 2021
Illinois has been known to dabble outside of the Midwest with some of their offers. There are a lot of talented players on the roster right now not from around the state of Illinois.
One state that has been paying dividends is Texas. Illinois was able to snag a handful of players from the Lone Star State including, now healthy, Marquez Beason. But we aren’t done with the state of Texas just yet. I think we could land someone like Jaedon Wilson.
Wilson is a 6-foot-3, 172-pound wide receiver from DeSoto High School and resides in DeSoto, Texas. He is rated as a three-star recruit who is the No. 783 player in the class of 2021 and the No. 115 wide receiver in the nation. He is also the No. 110 player in the state of Texas.
Four teams are listed as favorites to land Wilson. 247Sports has Arkansas, California, Ole Miss and UCLA as the leaders right now. But those are also his most recent unofficial visits.
I think Illinois is still in Wilson’s recruitment. He visited Champaign back in June 2019 and we offered him a scholarship on that visit. The Writing Illini checked in with Wilson about a month and a half ago too. He was heading to take his ACT at the time. But he did tell me that he wants to take another visit to Illinois this year. So, don’t count out the Orange and Blue.
