No. 2 Guard – Ayo Dosunmu

Ayo Dosunmu gets the nod at the No. 2 guard spot even though he has only played a season and a half for the Illini in the 2010s. Ayo has been consistent during his time with the program.

Ayo came in last season and averaged 13.8 points and 3.3 assists while shooting 35-percent from three-point range and 43-percent from the field. He was named to the Big Ten All-Freshman Team as well.

The impact of Ayo on Illinois has been huge. We were needing guards as Illinois lost two after the 2017-18 season due to transfer. Ayo was a top 40 ranked prospect per ESPN and gave hope to many Illini fans that him signing to Illinois could help bring more top recruits.

Ayo’s impact on the court has been huge too. He could help take some of the ball-handling pressure from Tent Frazier. He has also had big moments with the Illini. Hee drained a three-pointer to give Illinois a six-point lead and a win over Michigan State as a freshman.

So far as a sophomore, Ayo has averaged 15.1 points and 2.8 assists while shooting 27-percent from the three-point arc and 46-percent from the field. He hasn’t been to the tournament yet, though. This season, Ayo will look to get Illinois back to the big dance.
