2. DJ Steward

The other co-biggest target for the Illini in the class of 2020 is DJ Steward. Illinois needs players who can shift around in the backcourt and play many different roles. This is how Ayo Dosunmu functions for the Orange and Blue right now. That is what I am hoping Steward can do for us too.

Steward is a 6-foot-3, 165-pound combo guard from Whitney Young High School in Chicago, Illinois. He is rated as a four-star recruit who is the No. 27 player in the class of 2020 and the No. 6 combo guard in the nation. He is also the best player in the state of Illinois as well.

247Sports has Louisville, Texas and Illinois all in the lead for Steward. Texas offered the young guard back in January, and then Steward took an official visit on June 7. That is the only official visit I see for this kid so far. Just a few weeks ago, he did take two unofficial visits one to Illinois and the other to Louisville.

Despite the official visit to Texas, I think Steward’s commitment will end up coming down to Louisville and Illinois. This is just speculation, though. His recruitment has been extremely quiet. It wouldn’t shock me to see a few official visits coming up.
