It is extremely early in the process – only a few days after he committed to the Orange and Blue – but Brandon Peters is already the most highly rated quarterback the Illini have had on their roster since the full recruiting ranking era began.

Peters is a 6-foot-5, 230-pound pro-style quarterback who came from Avon High School in Avon, Indiana. He was a four-star recruit who was the No. 61 player in the class of 2016 and the No. 6 pro-style quarterback in the nation. He was also the best player from the state of Indiana as well.

Illinois is getting Peters via the transfer route. He played three seasons at Michigan, one of which was a redshirt year. He will have two years to play for the Illini and get them back to a bowl game. He was the biggest offseason snag for this program as well.

It still remains to be seen what Peters can do on the football field for the Orange and Blue. But at least we now have a more experienced option to lead this team for a few years while an incoming freshman can redshirt and get the game down a little better. I love what this Illinois coaching staff is doing right now.
