3. Shammond Cooper

The Illini already have some immediate game changers signed up for the class of 2019. They have the chance to add another with the addition of Shammond Cooper.

Cooper is a 6-foot-2, 195-pound inside linebacker from Trinity Catholic High School in St. Louis, Missouri. He is rated as a four-star recruit who is the No. 240 player in the class of 2019 and the No. 10 inside linebacker in the nation.

Back on March 15, Cooper cut his list down to just 10 programs he will be choosing from. The teams he kept on the list included Clemson, Oklahoma, Georgia, Florida, Ohio State, Texas, Kentucky, Missouri, Texas A&M and Illinois. The list of teams he has included is extremely impressive.

There was a time that I thought Oklahoma was the sure-fire landing spot for Cooper. He seemed to have been trending in the direction of the Sooners with a commitment in sight. But, tides seem to have turned as of late.

247Sports has Cooper as 100-percent to Illinois with the most recent predictions coming just a few weeks ago. This has my hopes rising for landing this talented linebacker. He would make for the third top 300 player for the Illini in the class of 2019. I think this is a real possibility sooner rather than later.
