Future Illinois basketball superstar Ayo Dosunmu and the United States U18 team continue to tear up the competition.

Let’s be honest, the United States is pretty amazing. I am talking about the country in general, so it comes as little surprise that the U18 team is just destroying the competition in every game they play. The team is currently 3-0 with the closest game coming against the Dominican Republic where Team USA only won by 32 points. The average margin of victory in the three games for Team USA is 56 right now.

A part of this talented team is Ayo Dosunmu. This kid is already developing into one of the best players in the country at such a young age. He is only going to continue to grow and will form the Illinois basketball team back into a contender once again.

Dosunmu has been doing some great things on the basketball court with Team USA as well. Out of all the players in this 2018 FIBA Americas U18 Championship, Dosunmu ranks No. 30 in scoring averaging 9.3 points per game. But, he is doing this at an efficient clip. He is currently shooting 66.7-percent from the field which ranks No. 1 in the entire tournament. That is an impressive feat.

In addition to Dosunmu’s tremendous ability to score the ball, he has also been dishing it out pretty well. He averages 4.67 assists per game and this ranks No. 6 among all the players in the tournament. So, not only is he an efficient scorer, but he also gets his teammates involved. This is a huge asset to have.

Illinois is getting an all-around great player. Dosunmu is good at shooting, can distribute well and takes care of the ball. Right now, he has a great assist-to-turnover ratio. His ratio is 2.8 assists to every one turnover. This ranks No. 5 in the entire tournament.

The next game for Dosunmu and Team USA is on Thursday. They will take on Ecuador who is 0-3. It should be a fairly easy task getting by this team. I am excited to see Dosunmu continue to grow on the court and even more excited for him to get to Champaign.
