The Illinois football team handed out a few more scholarship offers on Monday afternoon.

One of those offers went to MyKael Wright. He is a 5-foot-11, 180-pound cornerback from Valencia High School in Valencia, California. He is rated as a four-star recruit who is the No. 30 player in the class of 2019 and the No. 3 cornerback in the nation.

Illinois is a little late to this party. Wright has been recruited by a lot of teams already, and he has narrowed his list down to just eight programs. Those eight teams include Alabama, Washington, Arizona, Oregon, Texas, Arizona State, Tennessee and USC.

Unless I hear otherwise, I am going to assume Illinois doesn’t have much of a chance at Wright, but they could sure use him moving forward. He would be a tremendous get for this program.

Wright is going to bring a lot to whatever team he decides to pick. He has all the skills you would want at that next level, and that is why he is ranked in the top 50. This kid is going to be special and it starts with his speed.

An elite cornerback has elite speed and that is what Wright will bring to the table. This kid can keep up with any wide receiver he will go up against in college. His speed also enables him to make quick moves when wide receivers run slants and other routes.

I also really like Wright’s vision. He isn’t a guy who just relies on the great speed he has. He thinks and analyses plays, and then he reacts to what he sees and what he thinks will happen. I could see him being an All-American within his first two years of being in college.

Hopefully, Illinois can get into the recruitment of Wright. If they could make waves and get into his official visits, then I think they could really put together a potentially top 10 class in the nation. But, in this case, I am not holding my breath.
