Pieces to the class of 2019 are being put together for the Illinois football team.

The class currently consists of three talented players who will help this team immediately. But, Illinois still needs to add quite a few more players to the mix. One area Illinois has a great deal of momentum is St. Louis.

Illinois has already secured one of the top quarterbacks in the nation – Isaiah Williams – from Trinity Catholic High School in St. Louis. This program has become a hotbed for talented players. Another talented player is Marcus Washington.

Washington is one of the top wide receivers who is catching passes from Williams. He is a 6-foot-2, 170-pound wide receiver who is rated as a four-star recruit and ranked as the No. 62 player in the class of 2019 and the No. 11 wide receiver in the nation.

Illinois has been after Washington for quite some time. But, back on March 7, he decided to trim his list to just 10 teams and left the Illini off. Usually, this ends the recruitment trail but not with this Illini coaching staff and not for the class of 2019 in particular.

With the help of Williams and Marquez Beason, the Illini coaching staff was able to get back in the mix for Washington. He sees that something special is happening in Champaign and now there is a possibility of landing this top pass catcher.

On Friday night, Washington announced he is going to be committing on August 7, which is his birthday. This is right before the high school season starts so he can focus on just playing football.

The bad thing for the Illini is they don’t have a chance to prove they can win. This season should be better than last and winning helps in recruiting tremendously. Illinois now has to go off a special class of 2019, his former head coach being on staff and his quarterback is going to be the starter when 2019 rolls around, as recruiting pitches.

I think Illinois is in the running for this kid, but I don’t know how much of a chance they have. I think there are quite a few teams ahead of them right now. But, there is still a lot of time left until August, and Illinois has some great recruiters. Getting Washington would be a truly amazing accomplishment for this staff.
