Illinois Basketball: Projected Illini starting rotation with Courtney Ramey
No. 1 Guard
Starter: Trent Frazier
One of the major bright spots for the Illinois basketball team this season has been Trent Frazier. He arrived on the scene as an underrated recruit from the sunshine state and has emerged as a contender for Big Ten Freshman of the Year.
Frazier has increased his numbers tremendously since becoming the full-time starter for the Illini. He now sits at 11.7 points and 2.9 assists per game. I have no doubt he will continue being a starter heading into next season. I had a hard time figuring out if I wanted him at the No. 1 or No. 2 guard spot, though.
Backup: Te’Jon Lucas
Illinois probably has one of the most solid backup No. 1 guards in the nation with Te’Jon Lucas. He was the starter to start the season but was put on the bench and replaced with Frazier.
Lucas continues to get a lot of minutes, though. He is still averaging 20.1 minutes per game this season and in that time, he has dropped 5.3 points, 3 assists and 2 rebounds per game. He will continue being the backup to Frazier in 2018. This will help the program tremendously as they attempt to break their NCAA tournament drought.
