The Illinois basketball team has struggled this season but don’t give up hope on the program.

Illinois currently sits at 12-12 overall and 2-9 in the Big Ten as I type this. They have had so many close games this season and, honestly, I think they are only a player or two away from being an NCAA tournament team and possibly in the Top 25.

I know some of you are going to think I am delusional saying the Illini could be in the top 25 with the addition of a player or two, but I really think that is possible. They could and should have won the Northwestern, Maryland, New Mexico State, Iowa and Nebraska games if they just had one more talented player on the floor. That would get their record to 17- 7 overall and 6-5 in Big Ten play.

The addition of Ayo Dosunmu could put the Illini over that hump by himself. He is a super talented player who has already signed with Illinois for 2018. The Illini aren’t done with just one recruit for the class of 2018, though.

Over the past week or so, reports continue to emerge about the Illini turning up the heat on top 50 guard, Courtney Ramey. He is now directly in the crosshairs of Brad Underwood’s recruiting agenda. The Illinois basketball team would be exciting with him in the starting rotation.

Here is the projected Illini starting rotation with Courtney Ramey.
