1. Calvin Avery

Illinois football has a reason to be excited about the class of 2018. They have some solid players committed with more sure to come. But, the prized defensive player the Illini managed to snag was defensive tackle Calvin Avery.

Avery is a four-star recruit by every recruiting website out there. He is ranked as the No. 205 player in the class of 2018 and the No. 18 defensive tackle in the nation. This is the highest rated recruit the Illini have managed to get to sign in quite some time.

On December 17, Avery took to Twitter to announce in a simple tweet that he is going to be signing on the dotted line on Wednesday, December 20. This is big news for Illini Nation considering it was being reported earlier that day Avery wasn’t going to sign during the early period.

But, now Illinois has a chance to secure a signature from one of the best defensive commitments in recent memory. There is no doubt in my mind Avery is going to be an impact player every year in the Orange and Blue, and he will start immediately. Getting someone of this caliber is going to help build this program.
