New Mexico Lobos

Under Steve Alford, the New Mexico Lobos were actually a pretty good program. But, since he departed to UCLA, this team hasn’t been very good. They fired head coach Craig Neal and hired Paul Weir, who was the New Mexico State head coach last season.

Weir hasn’t proved anything as a head coach, yet. He has only been a Division I head coach for one season and it is a risk to go to a program with an inexperienced, new, head coach. That is a reason why Dosunmu won’t pick New Mexico.

In addition to the coaching concerns, New Mexico doesn’t have a good roster. Dosunmu would get a ton of playing time but that doesn’t mean this is the right spot for him. He wouldn’t have much around him and there isn’t much coming in for the future either.

New Mexico didn’t have a single commitment from the class of 2017 and they only have a three-star forward committed for 2018. This doesn’t bode well for the future of this program.

The Lobos also play in the Mountain West Conference. They are a mid-major program and it is likely Dosunmu will head to a bigger program with a higher chance of being successful. All of these are reasons why he won’t pick New Mexico.
