Projected Starter: Tracy Abrams

Next: 2nd String

Wait a second, who is that?  Yes, IF healthy and IF he gets a medical redshirt waiver, then I think Tracy Abrams will end up starting the season as the point guard for the Illini.

Does this mean that I think he will hold on to the starting role?  No, I think by seasons end another player that I will name later will end up being the starter.

We haven’t seen Abrams play a basketball game since the 2nd round of the 2014 NIT in Groce’s 2nd year at the helm.  His two injuries that have kept him out each of the last two seasons really has me wondering what type of player we will be getting in Abrams once he returns.

The two years that Abrams played basketball for the Illini he was pretty good.  He averaged 10.7 PPG, 3.2 APG, and 3.5 RPG.  That was his sophomore campaign and his freshman season was pretty much the same production.

If Illinois could get roughly that type of production out him his senior season, then I think it improves the team greatly.

Despite the questions, I have him projected as the starter because of his experience and the lack of talent and experience behind him to start the season.
