Bill Cubit

Illinois football has started the season 2-1 under interim head coach Bill Cubit.  Cubit has done an okay job rallying the troops after the dismissal of the previous Illinois head coach one week before the season started.

Cubit had this team playing pretty well the first two games, winning both by a combined score of 96-3.  That happy-go-lucky attitude quickly got shot down as they headed over to North Carolina to take on the Tar Heels.

North Carolina spanked the Illini as a few bad possessions to begin the 1st quarter set the tone for the rest of the game.

The thought was that Cubit may have turned this team around, but in reality the Illini just sat back in their original pattern under the previous regime.

To think that Cubit could turn around a program in a few weeks is insane.  These players have known a certain way to play football for the last 2-4 years.  There was no possible way Cubit could change their old habits.

Despite the pounding that Illinois took this past Saturday, I still have Cubit as my top candidate to take the reins full-time next season.  He is liked in the program and he has built this offense we see today.  We need to give him this year and at least another year.
