The Illinois football team made another top list for a big-time recruit today.

Terrell Perriman took to Twitter to announce his top nine which included the Illini. His complete nine teams are Utah, West Virginia, North Carolina State, Michigan State, Georgia, LSU, UCF, Tennessee and Illinois. That is a list full of big-time winning programs and the fact the Illini are in the mix is exciting.

Perriman is a top recruit and would be a great boost to the class of 2018 for Lovie Smith. He is a wide receiver from Miami Central High School in Miami, Florida. He is rated as a four-star recruit who is the No. 286 player in the class of 2018 and the No. 55 wide receiver in the nation.

Let’s start by pointing out how great of a player Perriman is on the football field. This kid has so much talent and the scholarship offers reflect that fact. His speed is what really helps set him apart from the rest of the pack. He can be what Lovie had with Devin Hester when he was with the Chicago Bears, except Perriman has hands. He is a 5-foot-11, 180-pound monster who is going to be special wherever he ends up.

The second thing to look at is the recruiting trail. Illinois has to compete against some great teams to secure the commitment of Perriman. Lovie does have a few things working for him. He is a former NFL head coach with plenty of NFL coaching and playing experience on the staff. They know how to get to the NFL. The Illini have also started a recruiting pipeline with Miami Central. They snagged wide receiver Carmoni Green and defensive end Owen Carney from Miami Central in the class of 2017. These two could be key in the recruitment of Perriman to Champaign.

Illinois could always use more help on the outside as well. They will have Malik Turner graduate after this season and then Mike Dudek and Sam Mays will depart after the following year. That means there will be plenty of room for the Miami Central duo of Green and Perriman to dominate the ball and take this team to new heights.

Hopefully, Lovie, the staff and former Miami Central players can help convince Perriman Champaign is the right place for his football career. This wide receiver core could be pretty special if he decides to join the Illini.
