If you just look on paper, Brad Underwood didn’t pull in a great recruiting class for 2025.

The Illini finished ranked No. 47 in the country for the class of 2025. Being outside the top 25 is normally concerning, but once you dive into the players who are coming in, you can rest easy.

Illinois has a couple of nice freshmen from the high school ranks. We landed a couple of big-time transfers from the transfer portal. And then there were a couple of additions from overseas.

David Mirkovic has been signed with the Illini for a while, but we were still waiting on news from the final piece. That news came on Thursday when the Illinois social media announced the signing of guard Mihailo Petrovic.

Petrovic is a 6-foot-3 point guard from Serbia. He isn’t rated or ranked by recruiting sites, but he is someone who is going to make an instant impact on the Illinois roster.

Last season, Petrovic put up some impressive numbers in the ABA League for Mega BG. He averaged 14.2 points, 7.3 assists, and 2.8 rebounds per game while shooting 33.3% from three-point range.

Illinois basketball is officially getting a recruit who can run the court well in Mihailo Petrovic

With Kasparas Jakucionis out of the picture, Illinois needed another guard who can handle the ball well. That is what we are getting with Petrovic.

Petrovic runs the court so well. He is always looking to beat the defense back and trying to create buckets for himself and his teammates.

The court vision that Petrovic has impresses me, too. He can find the open man while driving to the bucket. This is going to create so many open attempts for the Illinois offense.

Petrovic had me worried for a minute, but he is now with the Illini. This is the final piece in what could be a special Illinois basketball squad.
