Will these Illinois basketball records fall before the season's end?

Records are made to be broken, and I have a suspicion that these two will be shattered by season's end.

Shauna Green has assembled a team of up-and-coming stars in college basketball, leading Illinois basketball to their best start in recent memory.

The Illini have been on an absolute tear, winning ten of their first eleven games to start the season. They have also won their last eight games, which is the program's longest winning streak since last season, when they won 11 straight.

This team has a rocket ship strapped to its backside with all of the momentum they've built. The positivity has been flowing through Champaign to the point where I've actually started to dive into the Illinois record books to see which ones are in danger of falling. But what are some key marks that this team could reach by season's end?

1. Destiny Jackson takes down Illinois' freshman assist record

Destiny Jackson is a star in the making for the Illini and is quickly becoming one of the better true point guards in the country. Jackson's ability to use her athleticism to help create shots for her and her teammates has turned her into a big-time threat in the backcourt.

The Chicago, Illinois, product has been an excellent distributor, averaging five assists per game through her first 11 games with the Illini. She has racked up 55 total assists, which is just 85 assists off the Illinois freshman record of 140 assists set by Jenny Johnson during the 1984-85 season.

If Jackson wants to reach this mark, she would need to average just under five assists per game for the rest of the season. This is completely doable in theory, especially with Green's bunch expected to reach the postseason this upcoming March. But Jackson will need to bring her A-game when Illinois takes on the likes of Michigan, Maryland, and UCLA.

2. Maddie Webber's long range shot puts her in the history books

Maddie Webber has been an absolute delight ever since she transferred from Villanova to Illinois. The former McDonald's All-American nominee has been putting on a show off the bench, averaging the third-most points per game for the Illini at 11.4 points.

She has been a threat to opposing teams as the 'sixth woman' of the Illini. In just 22.6 minutes per game, Webber has attempted the second-most three-pointers on the team with 41 attempts but leads Illinois with a three-point percentage of 43.9%.

Webber's shot has been absolutely lethal, forcing opposing teams to key in on her whenever she's on the floor. But can she get hotter as the season moves on, to the point where she can surpass Jada Peebles' all-time three-point percentage mark of 45.2%?

I certainly think so! Webber is in the perfect spot with the Illini. This team has a plethora of different scorers on the floor at all times who can take over a game at a moment's notice. Their ability to move the ball around and find the open shots can be very beneficial for her in the long run, and if she can get hot at the right time, who knows? Anything is possible!
