The University of Illinois honored a wide array of student-athletes this past week at the Oskees, with eight former athletes across six sports being named to the school's hall of fame, which included two Illinois basketball players.
It was a special moment for the school and the athletic department, as legends of the Illini were able to cement their legacies with an induction into Illinois' most storied society.
The Illini had a plethora of former student-athletes who deserved this honor for one reason or another, but when it comes to their list of inductees as a whole, there were two names that stood out to me as highlight-worthy: James Augustine and Ayo Dosunmu.
Cementing their legacy.

Congratulations to James Augustine and Ayo Dosunmu on being inducted into the Illinois Athletics Hall of Fame Class of 2026! pic.twitter.com/AT45nGFg4E
Augustine, for starters, was a key contributor to Illinois' starting five during their title run in 2004-05. The big man from Mokena, Illinois, was an immense threat in the paint during his time in Champaign, averaging 10.1 points and 7.5 boards in 137 games with the program.
Dosunmu, on the other hand, quickly became the face of a program that was in desperate need of a revamp. The Morgan Park product quickly became the catalyst to this team's turnaround, leading Illinois with 16.7 points and 3.9 assists through 90 games played.
James Augustine and Ayo Dosunmu were the most obvious choices for Illinois' hall of fame
When fans look through the history of the men's Illinois basketball program, a lot of them can easily pinpoint a plethora of great talent who could be considered for the Hall of Fame.
But when it comes to Augustine and Dosunmu, it's hard not to say that they were the most obvious selections for the class of 2026. These two men meant a great deal to the men's basketball program, as they left a lasting memory that stands the test of time.
It doesn't matter if it's the multiple All-Big Ten honors between the two or their lengthy runs in the NCAA tournament; their resumés speak for themselves. These two are historic members of this program, and deserve every bit of recognition that comes their way.
Congratulations to two of the best! Thank you for all of the amazing memories that you brought Champaign.
