Temple transfer portal offensive tackle a big target for the Illinois football team

Illinois football needs more offensive line depth, and a transfer portal recruit from Temple could be an answer.

The end of the regular season marks, essentially, the start of the transfer portal, and the Illinois football team has kept up quite well.

So far, the Illini have added six players in the transfer portal and have only lost, I believe, 13 players. That isn’t terrible considering there are quite a few programs that have lost 20 or more players.

Most of the incoming talent for the Illini is on the defensive side of the ball. The biggest concern right now might be for the offensive line. Although we do have quite a few blockers coming back, there are some serious depth concerns. That is why targeting Kevin Terry is a good idea.

Terry is a 6-foot-5, 270-pound offensive tackle. He committed to Temple in the class of 2023. Terry redshirted in year one and then this past season, he was a production member of the Owls’ offensive line.

Back on December 6, Terry decided to end his time at Temple and enter the transfer portal. Just over a week ago, Illinois came in with a scholarship offer. He still has three years of eligibility remaining and is now looking for a new home.

Kevin Terry could compete for a starting job if the Illinois football team lands him out of the transfer portal

The recruitment of Terry intrigues me. This kid is extremely young and isn’t a retread from one of these bigger programs. He still has plenty of potential, and I think Illinois can max out his potential.

There is a chance that Illinois can bring back third-team All-Big Ten offensive tackle JC Davis, but that is a coin toss at this point. Even if Davis does return, having Terry as an option would be great for the program.

Terry could come in and give Illinois snaps at both tackle positions. He could legitimately push for snaps and even starts at the opposition tackle position from Davis too.

I want Terry in Champaign. I think he would be one of the most underrated additions from the transfer portal. This kid would be a great piece.
