The women's Illinois basketball program received some big news, as five-star recruit Sydney Mobley narrowed her list of schools down to Illinois, Ohio State, and Virginia Tech.
Mobley, a product of Sunbury, Ohio, has been on the Illini's radar for quite some time now, with Shauna Green and Co. extending an offer to the 6-foot-2 center on February 8, 2026.
The dominant big has been one of the top players in the country, with at least 42 schools extending her offers within the past year. But recently, the Sunbury Big Walnut High School star received even more recognition, as she was ranked No. 29 in the country on the SC Next 100 player ranking.

The Illini, who took the youngest team in the country to the second round of the NCAA tournament last season, retained roughly 90% of their roster this offseason. Green will be stocked with talent from top to bottom, but will still have to prepare for the future.
That is where Mobley comes in, as she can add a dominant presence under the basket on both sides of the court. She can become a pivotal part of Green's frontcourt in the future, especially with superstar Berry Wallace nearing her graduation.
Sydney Mobley and Cereah Parchment have a chance to continue Illinois' trend of great frontcourt play
It is going to be hard to replace a talent like Wallace. The Illini have been extremely blessed with the contributions that she has brought, leading the team in scoring in 2025-26 with 18.4 points per game.
If Illinois can land Mobley, she will certainly have big shoes to fill once Wallace departs. She has been a premier athlete in the state of Ohio and was named the 2026 Ohio Ms. Basketball with a stat line of 20.3 points, 9.0 rebounds, and 2.5 assists per game.
Mobley can certainly be a dominant force down low and in transition, with 247Sports' Brandon Clay saying that she "excels as a rebounder with the ability to run the floor and finish on the other end." The only problem is that she needs to up her free throw shooting, as well as her efficiency from beyond the three-point arc.
Simply put, Mobley is a talented player with tremendous upside. If Illinois can beat out Ohio State, which is currently favored to land Mobley, then they will surely have a quality running mate for Parchment in the future.
