Illinois basketball has officially landed another player out of the transfer portal.

It has been a crazy offseason for the Illini. As of right now, Illinois enters the 2024-25 campaign with two players from the Elite 8 roster we saw just weeks ago.

On top of the departing players due to aging out, five players have transferred out of the program, including Niccolo Moretti, Luke Goode, Dain Dainja, Amani Hansberry, and Sencire Harris.

Brad Underwood has done a great job adding talent out of the transfer portal too. Illinois’ newcomers from the transfer portal include Tre White, Kylan Boswell, Carey Booth, and Jake Davis.

You can now add another player to the new additions for the Orange and Blue. On Tuesday, it was announced on social media that Illinois has landed transfer portal forward, Ben Humrichous.

Coming out of Tipton High School in Indiana, Humrichous was looked over by many programs. He picked Huntington University from the NAIA ranks as his landing spot. Humrichous then transferred to Evansville, where his game started to blossom.

In 2023-24, Humrichous played in 24 games for the Aces and averaged 14.7 points, 4.7 rebounds, and 1.9 assists per game. He also took 5.3 three-point attempts per contest and knocked them down at a clip of 41.3%.

Adding Ben Humrichous out of the transfer portal gives Illinois basketball a dangerous scoring threat in the second unit

While Illinois has been able to combat the transfer portal departures with additions, we are still not a very deep team heading into the 2024-25 campaign. Humrichous helps that, though.

I am excited about Humrichous’ size. He comes into the Illinois program at 6-foot-9, and he should be able to bang around in the paint on defense. The key to his game is the ability to stretch the floor, though.

Humrichous can step out and shoot the three-point shot. That will force defenders to cover him, and the lanes will be less clogged. He will also provide some tremendous shooting in the second unit for the Illini.

I will probably move Carey Booth over as the primary backup to Morez Johnson Jr. Humrichous can slide in behind Ty Rodgers at the No. 4 spot. Off the bench, Illinois then has a 41.3% three-point shooter in Humrichous. He will come in with the second unit that features Davis, who shot 38.7% from three-point range last season.

Illinois’ second unit just got dirty. Humrichous brings a ton of shooting talent to the team, and I can’t wait to see what our reserves do in 2024-25.
