No. 2 Alfonso Plummer
This might be a controversial selection at No. 2, but when you look at the ability and the incredible quantity, I believe Alfonso Plummer deserves this spot.
Plummer wasn’t a long-time Illinois player. In fact, he spent two seasons at Utah before finishing his career with a lone season in Champaign.
The talent was obviously there with Plummer, though. He shot 39.9% from three-point range with the Utes, so there were high expectations in the one season Plummer was with Illinois. Let me tell you, he didn’t disappoint.
Plummer played great in his short stint with the Illini. He averaged 7.3 three-point attempts and hit them at a clip of 40.8%.
The 7.3 three-point attempts Plummer averaged in 2021-22 ranks No. 4 among the 102 cases of an Illinois player shooting at least 3.0 three-point attempts in a season. On top of that, along with Luther Head, Plummer is the only other player to attempt over 7.0 three-point attempts and shoot at least 40.0% in the history of the Illinois basketball program.
I wish Plummer’s time was longer with the Illini. This one season wasn’t a one-off. Plummer was a great shooter throughout his entire career, but Illinois fans only got a glimpse of it. I think the No. 2 spot is right for this legendary sniper.
