No. 7 Dee Brown

It was truly incredible to watch Dee Brown play the game of basketball. He was such a dynamic player on the court, and while his speed was the thing people talked about, he could end you with his shooting as well.

For Brown’s Illinois career, he wasn’t a great three-point shooter. He had solid numbers, finishing his four seasons averaging 6.1 three-point attempts and hitting them at a clip of 36.0%. It was his junior year that enabled Brown to sneak into the top 10 Illinois basketball three-point shooters of all time.

In 2004-05, the Illinois basketball program made a run to the national title game. Sadly, would couldn’t pull off the win over North Carolina, but Brown’s fingerprints were all over that team. He attempted 5.8 three-point shots per game that season and hit them at a clip of 43.4%, which is a career-high.

Brown’s 43.4% ranks No. 10 out of the 102 instances of an Illinois player averaging at least 3.0 three-point attempts in a season. He is also one out of only seven players to shoot at least 40% and attempt 5.5 three-point field goals in a season.

If Brown had seen more consistent shooting over his time at Illinois, he would have surely been up there in the top five all time. But he struggled some seasons with his three-point shooting. That national title team was special, though. Brown’s great three-point shooting that season helped Illinois get to the mountaintop.
