6. Alfonso Plummer

The Illini needed more scoring threats to help get the program to where it needed to be. Brad Underwood was able to deliver with the addition of Alfonso Plummer.

Plummer made a name for himself with Utah. He spent two seasons with the Utes where he put up huge numbers. In his final season, he averaged 13.6 points, 2.2 rebounds, and 1.0 assists per game for a near-.500 Utah team.

For his final season of college basketball, Plummer wanted to go to a contender. He ended up picking Illinois as his landing spot. The Illini were coming off a season where we had made the NCAA tournament for the first time in seven seasons, and we had just lost Ayo Dosunmu to the NBA Draft.

Plummer shined in his lone season with the Illini. He averaged 14.6 points, 2.5 rebounds, and 1.1 assists per game for an Illinois team that was able to make it back to the postseason as a No. 4 seed.

Just Plummer’s numbers alone make him one of the best transfer portal players Illinois has ever brought into the program. The fact he was able to bridge the gap between Ayo and the future of the Illini was important. We made back-to-back NCAA tournaments because he was in the fold. He dons this list at No. 6.
