Seattle Seahawks superstar recognizes huge Illinois football interception
Early action in the Illinois football game against Kansas proved beneficial to the Orange and Blue.
Everyone knows that a first drive can set the tone for an entire game. If the Illini were to allow Kansas to drive down the field and score a touchdown on their first offensive possession, it would have put us behind the eight-ball.
The Jayhawks did start to move the ball early on in their first drive of the game. A mix of running and passing got them to midfield.
Illinois managed to get Kansas into a 3rd-and-8 situation where quarterback Jalon Daniels had to try to pass the ball down the field. On a pass to the left that would have been a first down, Illinois cornerback Xavier Scott flipped around and made an incredibly athletic interception that changed the momentum of the game early on.
This interception wasn’t just noticed by Illinois fans either. On social media, Illinois football great and current Seattle Seahawks cornerback Devon Witherspoon took notice of the huge interception by Scott.
Xavier Scott had a chance to learn under Seattle Seahawks cornerback Devon Witherspoon while with the Illinois football program
Witherspoon recognizes Scott's game, which is fun to see. He knows what a great cornerback looks like because he was a consensus All-American with the Illini and the No. 5 pick in the 2023 NFL Draft.
Scott also had a chance to learn under Witherspoon. Their time at Illinois overlapped in 2022 when Witherspoon had that legendary season.
In 2022, Scott had a chance to play in 11 games, and thanks to Witherspoon heading to the NFL, Scott also got a chance to start in the bowl game that season.
Learning under Witherspoon is an experience that most do not have. Scott’s motor, tenacity, and all-around talent resembles that of Witherspoon. Hopefully, he will have that type of career by the time he is done in Champaign.
