Projected Illinois basketball lineup with transfer portal addition of Ben Humrichous

Illinois basketball is trying to build a roster to at least get back to the Elite 8, and adding a transfer portal player like Ben Humrichous will help the cause

No. 2 Guard

Starter: Kylan Boswell (JR)

One of the many things that makes Kylan Boswell so special is the fact he is versatile. He can do everything on the basketball court, and his abilities enable him to move around the court. I had Boswell as the starting No. 1 guard, but now with Ben Humrichous in the mix, he should move to the starting No. 2 spot.

Boswell reminds me a lot of Deron Williams. That isn’t hyperbole either. I said that when Illinois was originally recruiting him. Williams was a great ball-handler, but he was also great off of the ball. Boswell can do the same for Illinois. I think Boswell is going to be great running around screens and shooting. He is going to be handling the ball as well, but Boswell can create a ton of offense at the No. 2 guard spot.

Backup: Transfer Portal

Even though Humrichous creates more depth on the Illinois roster, there are still four scholarships left. Illinois also needs more guards to help for the 2024-25 campaign.

I would love it if Brad Underwood used a scholarship on a transfer portal shooter who could play roughly the same role as Luke Goode did last season. We need more depth at guard, as there will be times when players get into foul trouble or get tired. As of right now, Dra Gibbs-Lawhorn is likely backing up the No. 2 spot in addition to his No. 1 guard duties.
