Depth is key to winning in the future, and the Illinois basketball team added a player who will help change the lineup for next season

No. 2 Guard

Starter: Kylan Boswell (JR)

I am extremely excited to see what Kylan Boswell can do for the Illini. It has been a couple of years in the making, but he is finally back in Champaign. Boswell should enter the Illinois basketball program as the starter at the No. 2 spot.

As mentioned in the previous slide, Boswell is Illinois’ only true point guard. Ty Rodgers is developing the abilities, but Boswell can distribute and score better than anyone on the team. He averaged 9.6 points, 3.6 assists, and 2.3 rebounds per game last season. He also shot 37.9% from three-point range. Look for Boswell to be an All-American for the Illini.

Backup: Scholarship

Illinois could always use more shooting. In the traditional shooting guard role, we don’t have depth. I would like for Brad Underwood to go out and snag a shooting guard either via the transfer portal or the incoming high school market. We have three scholarships left to play with, so landing a player who can play 8-12 minutes per game would be perfect.

This player doesn’t have to put up huge numbers when they enter the game, though. I am looking for someone to fill the Luke Goode role. They come into the game, give us great hustle minutes, and knock down a three-point shot or two. Illinois needs someone like that off the bench.
