Projected Big Ten football standings for the 2024 season

The college football season is upon us, so here is a full projection of how the 2024 season will finish in the Big Ten.

15. Michigan State Spartans 4-8 (2-7 Big Ten)

Finishing with the same record as Maryland, I have Michigan State also struggling. They should be able to get to 4-8 overall and 2-7 in the Big Ten.

  • Biggest Wins: Indiana, Purdue

When you get to the lower teams, it is hard to find a big win. Any win is good, but I think the two best wins for Michigan State could come against Indiana and Purdue.

The Hoosiers could end up being a solid team, and I think they could get to a bowl game. So that would be a pretty big victory. Purdue isn’t nearly as good, but they will have a good defense. This will test the Spartans throughout the game.

  • Biggest Losses: @ Maryland, @ Boston College

The schedule for Michigan State doesn’t blow me away, but there are a couple of losses that could determine the entire season.

I see the second game of the season against Maryland as a big game. A win here could set the tone for the rest of the 2024 campaign, but I see this game being a loss.

Another contest to keep an eye on is the Boston College game. Starting 3-1 would be great for the Spartans, but I see them going on the road and falling to the Eagles. That means they would start 2-2 and struggle the rest of the way out.

  • Biggest Threats: FAU, Indiana

The first game of the season for Michigan State is against FAU. This would normally be an easy win, but with a new quarterback behind center, there could be some struggles. Look for the Owls to compete.

I think Indiana is going to be a decent team too. The Hoosiers are projected to get to a bowl game, so while I have this as a Spartans win, it will be a tough game.
