Xavier Amos – Northern Illinois Huskies
With Amani Hansberry departing the program, Illinois still needs depth in the frontcourt. I love what we have in Morez Johnson Jr., Carey Booth, and Ty Rodgers. We need one more frontcourt piece, though.
Xavier Amos would solve this problem. He is a 6-foot-8, 215-pound forward out of Illinois. Coming out of Whitney Young High School in Chicago, Amos wasn’t rated or ranked. He picked Northern Illinois as his landing spot, and his game started to develop while with the Huskies program.
During his sophomore campaign, Amos averaged 13.8 points, 5.8 rebounds, 1.3 blocks, and 1.2 assists per game. He started in 25 games for the Huskies as well. With two years of eligibility remaining, Amos is now looking to take his game to the next level.
Illinois could be that landing spot. Amos hit the transfer portal after two seasons with Northern Illinois, and he had quite a few teams coming after him. One of the teams to contact Amos was Illinois.
I love the possibility of landing a player like Amos. He is someone who can give the Illini great minutes on both ends of the floor. That is hard to find in the college game. I think he would fit well behind Ty Rodgers as the primary backup. Rodgers only saw 22 minutes per game last season, so a nice timeshare with Amos would be perfect. I see Amost getting 18-22 minutes each night for the Illini.
