There are numerous positions where Illinois needs a boost. Moving into the 2024 campaign, I want to see the Illini add more help at wide receiver. We are missing some key pieces from last year, and it is time to upgrade. Someone like Fredrick Moore would do the trick.

Moore is a 6-foot-1, 180-pound wide receiver from Cardinal Ritter College Prep in Missouri. Coming out of the class of 2023, Moore was rated as a three-star recruit and ranked as the No. 520 player in his recruiting class. He was also the No. 72 wide receiver in the country and the No. 13 player coming out of Missouri.

It looks like Moore only ended up taking two official visits coming out of high school. He made a trip to Champaign to check out the Illini. The other visit was up to Ann Arbor to see what Michigan had to offer. The Wolverines would end up snagging the under-the-radar wide receiver.

Moore contributed to the Michigan team as a freshman. He played in over four games, which ended up burning his redshirt. The upcoming sophomore didn’t put up huge receiving numbers – 4 receptions, 32 yards – but he saw 107 snaps during the season.

If Moore ends up entering the transfer portal, Illinois should pursue him. He would give the Illini a nice playmaking option out wide. The Illini lost Isaiah Williams and Casey Washington this offseason. Both were big-time contributors at wide receiver.

I do like Pat Bryant, Malik Elzy, Eian Pugh, and Kenari Wilcher, among others, coming back, though. I think Illinois has some serious potential in that group. But with Moore having experience, especially in big games, I would imagine he starts from day one in the Illinois offense. Luke Altmyer needs a go-to guy, and Moore could be that for the Illini.
