Multiple big recruits are deciding their future this week, and the Illinois football program is eyeing a solid safety looking for a home.

With a national recruiting ranking of No. 48 in the country, the Illini are looking to land more talent for the class of 2025. Charles Bass is set to make a decision on Wednesday, and he has Illinois in his top four.

The day before Bass is going to make a decision, Max Redmon will decide where he will end up playing his college ball.

Redmon is a 6-foot, 185-pound safety from Cardinal Newman High School in Florida. He is rated as a three-star recruit and ranked as the No. 999 player in the class of 2025. He is also the No. 77 safety in the country and the No. 130 player coming out of Florida.

On June 29, Redmon decided to cut his list down to just three schools. He kept Florida State, South Florida, and Illinois alive for his commitment. He also announced that his decision would be on Tuesday, July 9.

As of right now, multiple recruiting sites have Redmon picking Florida State. It doesn’t seem like there is a ton of confidence in that selection, though. So, Illinois still seems to have a shot.

Illinois football is trying to load up depth in the secondary by adding a player like Max Redmon

Redmon would be a good addition to the Illinois football program. He probably wouldn’t start right away, but I would fully expect him to get snaps as a freshman.

Illinois seems to be stockpiling defensive back talent as well. Redmon would join some talented defensive backs coming in from the class of 2025.

Desmond Straughton is Illinois’ second-highest commitment thus far, as he is the No. 627 player in the class of 2025. He would enter the program as a safety.

Bret Bielema also has Andre Lovett coming into the program. The talented in-state product enters as an athlete but I believe he will be a defensive back. Illinois also has Robert Jones coming in at cornerback and Xanai Scott at safety in 2025.

It is great that the Illini are focusing on the defensive backfield. We need to bolster this area of the field, and Bielema understands that fact. Redmon would be a perfect depth piece for the roster.
