The Illinois football team had a pretty good Saturday, as we added to the class of 2025.

Coming into the weekend, the Illini were off to a good start recruiting for 2025. We had 10 commits and were hovering around the top 50 nationally.

The first domino to drop on Saturday was Cedric Wyche. He is a 5-foot-10, 195-pound running back from St. Thomas Aquinas High School in Florida. Wyche is rated as a three-star recruit and ranked as the No. 634 player in the class of 2025. He is also the No. 51 running back in the country and the No. 77 player coming out of Florida.

Numerous programs were targeting Wyche. He had scholarship offers from teams like Ole Miss, Florida, and Missouri but he picked the Orange and Blue at the end.

Illinois football is getting a special, elite, running back with the commitment of Cedric Wyche

It is not a surprise that Wyche received so many high-level scholarship offers. This kid is special, and the only head-scratching part of his recruitment is why he isn’t ranked higher nationally.

Wyche can do everything you want at the running back position. I would argue his best attribute is that he is a dual-threat running back. He is strong out of the backfield catching the ball, and when he does get a handoff, he can maneuver around defenders with grace. Wyche has great hips and is able to turn slightly where a defender slips off.

I think Wyche’s vision is next level as well. He can see his next move before he makes the current move. This kid understands the game of football at an elite level. I don’t think he is going to be a solid running back. I think he is going to be an elite All-Big Ten, and maybe even be in consideration for All-American, type of running back.

Wyche is going to give Illinois a great weapon out of the backfield. The running back room for the future is insane.
