4. Edric Hill

  • Position: DL
  • Year: R-Freshman
  • Hometown: Kansas City, Missouri

Bolstering the defensive line has been a priority for Bret Bielema and the Illinois coaching staff. I mentioned in a previous slide the talent we have already added in the transfer portal, but adding another piece would probably be a good idea.

If Edric Hill enters the transfer portal, he should be a top target for the Illinois football program. This kid has a ton of talent, and he would get plenty of usage in Champaign.

Coming out of North Kansas City High School in Missouri, Hill was a four-star recruit who was ranked as the No. 191 player in the class of 2023. He was also the No. 22 defensive lineman in the country and the No. 6 player coming out of Missouri.

In his first season with the Crimson Tide, Hill played in just two games and saw 10 snaps. He had a decent Pro Football Focus grade of 66.5 as well. The talent is clearly there, and he would make a huge impact on the Illini immediately.

Illinois needs more help on the defensive line. As I mentioned in the first slide, Illinois lost our entire front three starting defensive linemen from the 2023 campaign. While we have decent transfers coming in to fill those voids, there are no certainties entering the 2024 season.

If Hill became available in the transfer portal, Illinois should pursue his services. He wouldn’t just have a chance to come in and play snaps from day one. I believe Hill would snag a starting job for the Orange and Blue.
