Illinois basketball transfer portal departures, where are they now?

The transfer portal has been good and bad to the Illinois basketball team. Here is what some of the Illini departures are doing today.

Jayden Epps

I really liked Jayden Epps coming out of high school. He was a bouncy scorer who could help Illinois put up some points. This was an exciting commitment at the time.

Epps was a 6-foot-2, 195-pound combo guard coming out of Combine Academy in North Carolina. He was rated as a four-star recruit and ranked as the No. 51 player in the class of 2022. He was also the No. 8 combo guard in the country and the No. 2 player coming out of North Carolina.

Illinois beat out numerous programs like Kansas, UConn, and North Carolina State, for Epps’ commitment. This was a big get at the time, and as a freshman, you could see Epps’ potential.

During his lone season with the Illini, Epps played in 31 games and started in 11 of those contests. He averaged 9.5 points, 1.8 rebounds, and 1.5 assists per game. The potential was clearly there, and as a sophomore, this kid was going to bloom in the Illinois system.

That sophomore year in Champaign never came, though. After the season concluded, Epps entered his name into the transfer portal. The talented guard went back to the East Coast, as he picked Georgetown as his landing spot.

Statistically, Epps had a great sophomore campaign, as I thought he would. He averaged 18.5 points, 4.2 assists, 2.6 rebounds, and 1.2 steals per game for the Hoyas. While his season went well, Georgetown struggled. They finished 9-23 overall.
