Illinois basketball receives commitment from another elite 5-star recruit
The women’s Illinois basketball team keeps adding great talent, as huge news dropped on Thursday.
Coming into the week, the Illini had momentum as a program. We are coming off two of the best seasons in recent memory, and recruiting is at an all-time high.
To cap things off in 2024, Shauna Green and the Illinois coaching staff were able to land our first-ever five-star recruit in Berry Wallace. She will be able to come into the program this season and light the world on fire with her great size and ability.
Green wasn’t done adding elite talent, though. While the 2024 class is one for the ages, the class of 2025 is right behind ready to produce some of the best talent in program history.
On Sunday, Destiny Jackson announced that a decision was coming on September 5. Thursday is now here, and the decision has dropped. Dushawn London of 247Sports is reporting that Jackosn has picked the Illini as her landing spot.
This is a huge commitment for the Orange and Blue. Jackson is a 5-foot-6 point guard out of Whitney Young High School in Illinois. She is rated as a five-star recruit and ranked as the No. 24 player in the class of 2025.
Shauna Green and the women’s Illinois basketball team are about to have a loaded roster moving forward
What is crazy is that this upcoming season, Illinois is stacked. We have numerous five and six-year players who could have left but came back for one more season. The 2024-25 campaign should see the Illini get back to the NCAA tournament once again.
Even after those experienced players depart, waiting in the wings are two five-star recruits. The duo of Wallace and Jackson has the chance to be special and one of the greatest duos in Illinois men’s or women’s basketball history.
I haven’t even mentioned the other young talent that showed a lot of promise last season. I am excited to see what Gretchen Dolan turns into as a player. She was great for the program last season and really started to come into her own.
There is so much talent on the Illinois basketball team. That talent is only improving under Green as well. The future is so bright for the Orange and Blue.
