Illinois basketball continuing to pursue dynamic scoring recruit
Illinois basketball is poking around a talented guard who could help the team in the future.
It has been a pretty good past couple of weeks when it comes to Illini recruiting. We have landed two players for the class of 2025, and both players are four-star talents.
Brandon Lee was the most recent commitment for the Orange and Blue. He is a top-100 player and someone who should help the program from day one. I also love the addition of Keaton Wagler. Both players will be great for the Illini backcourt.
Brad Underwood is trying to add to that backcourt for future recruiting classes as well. This past Tuesday, HS Top Recruits posted on social media that Toure Nour Gassim has been in contact with numerous teams recently. The list is extensive, but on the list is Illinois.
Illinois first came in with a scholarship offer to Gassim back in July. They have clearly been putting resources into his recruitment since.
Gassim is a 6-foot-1, 175-pound point guard from The Principia School in Missouri. He isn’t rated or ranked just yet, but the class of 2027 guard is extremely talented, as he has scholarship offers from teams like Xavier, UCF, and Saint Louis, among others.
Toure Nour Gassim would bring great shooting at all levels to the Illinois basketball program
Usually, when a player is coming up from the high school ranks, they tend to be less polished offensively. The player is super athletic and can rock the rim, but their shooting isn’t where it needs to be yet. That isn’t the case with Gassim.
I love what I see with Gassim. He is someone who can hit shots at every level, and he isn’t afraid to step inside the three-point arc and shoot the mid-range.
Gassim’s three-point shot is fun to watch too. It is a massive rainbow shot that can bring rain to the court it is so high. The first step for Gassim is great too. He can pump fake and get a man in the air and then dribble around him and knock down the 12-footer.
Illinois should continue to put time and effort into recruiting Gassim. He is a big-time scorer, and I want him with the program in 2027.
